Seagate Date Code

Maybe some people are confused about what is Seagate date code, something happen with their Seagate hard disk and it shows they have to check the Seagate date code. Unluckily they have no idea about Seagate date code that looks confusing badly. Seagate date code is a code of the age of your hard disk life. It is designed with year, month and date sign when your hard disk made and when your hard disk will die. To avoid misunderstanding here, I briefly explain what I’ve got in a PDF instruction of Seagate date code calculating and resolving.

Date Code Shape: YYWD or YYWWD
- YY: fiscal year, beginning on the 1st Saturday of July YY-1
- W[1-9] or WW[10-52]: fiscal weeks from 1st Saturday of July YY-1
- D: days from the beginning of week WW (weeks run from Saturday to Friday)
To give you clear explanation please notice this picture:
The Seagate Date code shows its is 06212. We separate it becomes 06, 21, 2. So we have 06 for YY-1, 21 for WW and 2 for D.
Okay, we start to define what actually Seagate date code means.
Seagate date code shape is YYWD or YYWWD. YY is fiscal year, beginning by what year the hard disk made. But Seagate date code has it become YY-1. So if you get 06 as YY, it should be 06-1=05, it can be translated as Seagate date code first part is 2005.
While 21 means it must be in 21st weeks from the beginning or 1st Saturday of July 2005 or 1st Saturday of July YY-1. Then 2 means it is second day of the weeks, means it is Sunday if the calendar starts from Saturday to Friday.
Clearly explained, right? So, 06212 means the Seagate date code: 20th November 2005.
